Social Studies

Preparing students for the 21st century cannot be accomplished without a strong and sustaining emphasis on the social studies. Middle school social studies offers the crucial knowledge needed to create a framework for understanding the systems of society through four disciplines; history, civics, economics, and geography.

8th Grade

History: We will analyze individuals, groups, ideas, and themes from the origins of the American Revolution through Reconstruction.

Geography: We will examine places and regions in the United States, including conflicts over space and resources.

Economics: We will acquire the knowledge and economic reasoning skills to make sound financial decisions.

Civics: We will analyze the origins, structure, and function of the United States Constitution.

7th Grade

History: We will study individuals, groups, ideas, and themes in regions of the Eastern Hemisphere from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Age of Exploration.

Geography: We will use geographic tools to gather data and make geographic inferences and predictions.

Economics: We will understand how supply and demand influence price and profit in a market economy.

Civics: We will compare how various nations define rights, responsibilities, and roles of their citizens. 

6th Grade

History: We will study individuals, groups, ideas, and themes in regions of the Western Hemisphere and their relationships with one another. Some of the groups include the Maya, Inca, and Aztec.

Geography: We will use geographic tools to solve problems and examine how human and physical systems vary and interact.

Economics: We will identify and analyze different economic systems and how saving and investing are key contributors to financial well-being.

Civics: We will compare multiple systems of government.
