Welcome to Middle School Literature

The literature program for Middle School focusses on reading a wide range of genres: novels, poetry, folklore, historical fiction, realistic fiction and informational text.  These works will be used in literature circles to bring forth new ideas and confirm ideas that students have developed through personal experiences.  This class will include works in Literature such as “The Devil’s Arithmetic”, in 8th grade, “The Giver” in 7th grade, and “Where the Red Fern Grows” in 6th grade.

This course will help students develop a concrete understanding of the use of reading strategies such as visualizing, predicting, summarizing, using context clues to expand vocabulary, and inferring with the goal of helping students become conscious readers who comprehend and interpret text of different genres.
