Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a program developed by Sophia Cavalletti and is based on the developmental insights and teaching methods of Maria Montessori. The program teaches the link between the Bible and our liturgy. It is based on an approach that focuses on the Christian formation of children from the ages of three to twelve that is theologically sound, systematic, and rich in Bible, liturgy, and sacred history.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program supplements the PMCS religion curriculum, and will be introduced to preschool through first grade during the 2012-2013 school year. The learning environment, called the Atrium, will be visited by these classes once a week. It employs hands on learning and concrete materials. The program will be phased in for second grade and above in future school years.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd includes lessons based on prayer, the Nomenclature for Life in the Church, Biblical Geography, the Messianic Prophecies, the Infancy Narratives, the Good Shepherd, the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist and the Celebrations of the Church.
